The Assistant Technical Supervisor is responsible for providing technical support, configuration and operational repair and maintenance of the Zoo's mechanical rides and attraction areas, interpretive experiences, public address system and system interface components. Also maintaining the integrity of software and hardware. The Assistant Technical Supervisor must continually expand his/her knowledge of software applications and hardware as technology changes. This position is an integral part of the Rides and Attractions department and as such must assist in all areas of operations.

Principal Duties

  • Conduct daily inspection checks evaluating functionality and maintenance issues of designated rides and attraction areas in accordance with policies and procedures.
  • Conduct daily mechanical safety checks and preventative maintenance duties including projection systems, motion systems, automated controls, electrical circuits, software, etc.
  • Ensures that administrative, operational, and technical records are maintained in accordance with the organization's policies and procedures.
  • Operates a motion based simulation ride and carousel and associated electronic/mechanical control systems; also responsible for related audio/visual components, computer hardware and software, and communications equipment.
  • Operates a special FX theater attraction and associated electronic/mechanical control systems; also responsible for related audio/visual components, computer hardware and software, and communications equipment.
  • Operates a special FX experience and associated electronic/mechanical control systems; also responsible for related audio/visual components, computer hardware and software, and communications equipment.
  • Organize and direct staff to ensure the efficient operations of all rides and attractions areas.
  • Assist with acquisition, installation, maintenance, and inventory control of all spare parts equipment and technologies which are essential to daily operations.
  • Cleaning, maintaining, replacing, painting, and repairing existing interpretive structural elements associated with all attraction areas.
  • Cleaning, maintaining, replacing, and repairing electronic and multimedia components (including static playback devices, media players and PC based systems).
  • Ensure that customer service team has excellent communication, problem solving and professional skills for achieving customer satisfaction through training. 
  • Respond to and resolve customer complaints, inquiries, and feedback in a courteous and timely manner.
  • Participate with the leadership team to improve performance in areas of safety, sales, controllable expenses, associate retention and associate training and make appropriate recommendations to management regarding the same.
  • As assigned, assist with a variety of special events and construction projects.
  • Performs all other tasks as assigned by the Technical Operations Supervisor.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate degree or combination of equivalent education and experience focused in skilled trades/ electronics or mechanical studies.
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of relevant experience
  • Must familiarity with electronics and electronic testing equipment.
  • Willingness to learn proprietary hardware and software configuration and maintenance,
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-stress environment, attention to detail, and attention to aesthetics and a penchant for creativity.
  • Must have proven experience with: electronics maintenance and repair, professional audiovisual systems, system components and systems integration (preferable in a theater, production or amusement park applications)
  • Experience with commercial events or conferences.
  • Scissor lift training preferred.
  • Must be capable of working without close supervision to a consistently high standard and have a strong commitment to safety and excellent customer service.
  • Must be eligible for Special Inspector Commission Certificate from the State of Michigan Department of Consumer and Industries Services for Carnival-Amusement Safety Board.
