The Financial Analyst is an integral part of the Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) Division of the Finance Department and is responsible for timely and accurate revenue and expense analysis.  This includes budget-to-actual analysis, forecasting, KPI analysis, capital project analysis, and income statement reconciliation.  The Financial Analyst will also reconcile grant and development activity.  This role provides accounting support to department managers throughout the organization.  Knowledge of accounting regulations (specifically fund accounting), as well as financial and development area software is essential.

The Financial Analyst has the authority to carry out the job requirements and responsibilities and is accountable to the Director of Finance.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Monthly review of income statement, including budget to actual analysis
  • Works closely with department heads to support their financial reporting needs
  • Reconciles major revenue and expense accounts on a monthly basis
  • Prepares monthly departmental financial reports, including KPI preparation and analysis
  • Reconciles Development activity on a monthly basis and reports on variances
  • Supports all grant reporting alongside the education and development teams
  • Assists with budget development and budget monitoring
  • Supports all capital project reporting
  • Supports our corporate purchasing card program, as well as expense report process
  • Supports other areas of the finance and accounting departments, including payroll and purchasing, as needed

Physical Requirements

The Financial Analyst must have the ability to perform principal duties and to lift 20 pounds.  Job may require moderate physical effort on a daily basis such as walking, bending, stooping, and standing for an extended period of time.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the job.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Minimum

  • Bachelor's Degree in accounting, finance, or business is required.
  • 3-5 years' experience in an accounting or finance department, specifically:
    • Analyzing and reconciling financial activity, and
    • Working on month-end close process
  • Knowledge of accounting principles and practices, and the analysis and reporting of financial data.
  • Takes ownership over their work and is able to resolve issues in a timely manner.
  • Meets monthly reporting deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently as well part of a team.
  • Effective communication skills (oral/written), organizational capabilities and a strong attention to details are a must.
  • Strong work ethic.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize assignments.
  • Intermediate to Advanced Skills with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Power Point)
  • Intermediate to Advanced Skills with Accounting Systems

 Preferred

  • Experience with NetSuite Accounting Software
  • Experience with Raisers Edge Fundraising Software
  • Not-For-Profit Experience
  • Familiar with Fund Accounting
